From the business SpecialtiesI provide instruction and educational guidance in three areas:* SAT/ACT preparation (including free full-length practice tests)* Writing, reading and critical thinking; homework assistance in any class that requires writing * College application essays What ever subject matter I teach, my long term goal is to have a lasting positive impact on my students’ lives. To achieve that goal requires more than providing information. In addition, I nurture my students’ motivation to learn. At every step of the tutoring process, I use strategies and techniques to stimulate students’ curiosity and encourage engagement with their tasks. I found that what often stands in the way of making progress is a lack of self-confidence. As students learn to trust their abilities, they develop a strong foundation that results not only in good grades, high test scores and powerful college essays, but also in long term successful learning.Check out my website for more details about my teaching method and for more testimonials (englishtutor-Peninsula.com)To schedule a free consultation contact me any time via email (boulange@alumni.stanford.edu)I hope to hear from you soonDenise Boulange History Established in 2001. While at University, I taught both group classes and individual students. I realized quickly that one-on-one teaching was vastly more effective. The tutoring process is by definition personalized and interactive, allowing tutors to tailor their lessons to each student and to prompt high level on-task attention. I discovered that nothing makes me happier than to see the joy on a student’s face when he or she is making substantial progress. As a result of those experiences, I decided to open my own educational business. I love my personalized work with students and the results it can achieve.
I was raised by a French mother and an American father from whom I learned two languages early in life. That experience led me to develop a love of language that I indulged as a teenager by reading and writing constantly. After high school in Europe, I moved to the U.S. where I studied Anthropology at UC Berkeley and English literature at the University of Michigan. Currently, I am finishing a PhD dissertation at Stanford University on the process of adapting novels into films. While at Stanford, I learned the art of teaching how to write academic essays of excellence in the highly praised Program of Writing and Rhetoric. It is there that I experimented with both teaching group classes and tutoring individual students. My long experience with reading and writing and my lengthy studies in universities have allowed me to develop knowledge, skills and strategies that I use every day as a tutor.
