I help middle and high school students boost their confidence, improve their grades, and increase their standardized test scores, with a relaxed but focused approach that puts students at ease and allows them to absorb information and techniques at their own pace. I have 25 years of experience both teaching and tutoring kids in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trig, pre-Calculus, Calculus, biology, chemistry, physics, writing, and on the ACT and SAT. History Established in 1992. I began teaching high school in San Francisco in 1988, the year after I graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in biology. Since then I’ve taught at several Bay Area schools, helped various companies develop educational materials, and tutored hundreds of students privately. I have been tutoring since 1992–sometimes alongside teaching jobs and sometimes full-time. I’ve been a full-time private tutor since 2006. As a one-time classroom teacher, I find one-on-one tutoring to be a much more time-efficient, relaxed, enjoyable, satisfying, and effective way to learn.
I found I had a knack and love for teaching when I worked as a course assistant in Calculus my freshman year at Harvard. I therefore began teaching high school my first year out of college. I have continued to gain satisfaction from helping kids see that they can succeed in subjects that were at first intimidating. I believe this can have a ripple effect in a kid's life.Aside from being a tutor, I am also a published author and poet (3 books so far), and a singer-songwriter in the folk-rock band Crooked Roads (check out our very own Pandora station). I also work out regularly, run, and play basketball and tennis. To me, being a good teacher (and a good person) has to do with how much of the human experience you can relate to and draw from. I can talk about a wide variety of topics. And I can meet most any student at their level to help them to explore their potential
