Leslie Karten, Visual Arts Chair at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) for 10 yrs thru 2013, developed and managed the VA program, a diverse curriculum of 36 arts classes and a faculty of 27 professional artists. Karten developed strong relationships with the LA arts community and art schools globally. Showcasing her students with high-profile events, she brought high visibility to LACHSA students creating tremendous opportunities for these young artists. Karten is known for the strong portfolio preparation process she developed at LACHSA that included knowing her students, their abilities and working closely with arts school admissions. Her standard of excellence, knowledge of art school requirements, connection to art school admissions counselors and ability to match students to the right art school or university art program resulted in a HS arts department that enjoys a reputation of excellence and students who entered the finest art schools nationwide and abroad
