I owe Mr. Chao a debt of gratitude for all of his encouragement and for motivating me to study for the SAT and to try to go into a four-year institution when I was considering not even taking the SAT and instead enrolling in community college because I was so done with high school. We met in the first semester of my senior year, and I thought I had no other option but community college, which isn’t to say there’s anything wrong with that, but he completely changed my perspective and has always given me the best advice. I am grateful for his assistance because he showed me that it was never too late to try as well as the fact that I was still a first-generation college student in my family.
He kept me motivated to work hard even if I didn’t have the finest grades or GPA. We agreed on a score objective, and when I took the test, it came out that I had met it. I was ecstatic since we had come so far and actually accomplished it. No one has ever had me work so hard in school and genuinely like it because it revealed my true potential and he made it such a joyful and humorous setting. Mr. Chao was the man to see if I had any issues.
I was terrified of not being accepted into any colleges, but this guy sat me down next to him, took out his laptop, and showed me places where I stood a better chance of being accepted. I had no idea what I was doing, but after months of slogging, he made my life so much easier. He not only assisted me with my SAT, but also with the rest of my college application process. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Chao, and I’m sure I’ll pay him a visit now and then to see how he’s doing.
