My main areas of tutoring are mathematics (from elementary to high school (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus) to college level courses such as calculus and differential equations), physics, high school chemistry, and Spanish (I’m a native speaker). I also provide test preparation for SAT, ACT, SSAT, GRE, TEAS, etc.My goal as a tutor is to teach my students to think. I believe the best kind of tutor is the one that eventually becomes unnecessary, because the student has learned to think and reason through problems on their own. That’s why I make sure to spend some time with my students going over study skills and strategies, when I deem it necessary. History Established in 1999. I have been tutoring as a job for 15 years now, but I have been a teacher my entire life. Even when I was 6 years old, I would come home from school and teach my younger sister everything I had just learned. I must have been an effective teacher even then, because when my sister got to the first grade, she was told to just skip it and go to the second grade. Eventually, I started tutoring as a job when I was in high school, 15 years ago. Since then, I have learned a lot of tools that help me be a better tutor, such as how to glean information about what confuses my students from the type of questions they ask, or simply from the expression in their faces. I now also work as a college instructor, which puts me in charge of teaching many people at once. The challenges are certainly different to those of being a tutor, but they are very complementary. Being in charge of curriculum development, for example, has taught me a lot about the ideal way to organize a student’s knowledge.
I was born and raised in Argentina, from where I moved to the US at the age of 21 after I met the person who would become my husband. I had started college in Argentina, and completed my studies in the US, when I graduated summa cum laude with a double major in physics and mathematics. I then went on to graduate school, where I obtained a masters degree in physics, specialized in the field of particle physics. All throughout college and graduate school, I always found time to tutor, because I felt it kept me sane when I was under a lot of stress.
