History Established in 2009. MyGuru was founded in 2009 in Chicago to provide high quality 1-on-1 tutoring & test prep at an affordable price. MyGuru’s founders, two Northwestern University graduate students, realized it would be possible to offer both higher quality tutoring and more reasonable prices by: a) Slowly recruiting tutors with 3+ years of experience, 95th percentile test scores, and a passion for tutoring b) Designing simple packages that leverage available “off the shelf” tutoring & test prep books and materials c) Delivering an extremely high level of customer service, helping students find the best tutors for them d) Providing tutoring in students’ homes or nearby libraries to reduce cost and increase convenience Since 2009, we’ve slowly expanded to several new cities, including New York. In any city we enter, we build our team slowly, recruiting and interviewing only the most impressive and accomplished local tutors who, most importantly, have a passion and a skill set for 1-1 tutoring.
Mark, along with three ex-coworkers, founded MyGuru LLC before entering business school in late 2009. �He, alongside a small management team, owns and operates the company.Mark graduated from Indiana University with degrees in Finance and History. �While at Indiana, he worked as an economics tutor for the athletic department and for a private tutoring company. He also served as an undergraduate intern for the economics department. �After Indiana, he worked for four years at a strategy consulting firm, helping large companies develop better competitive strategies, where he progressed from intern to senior consultant. He holds an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, and recently left his position as an Associate Principal at a large strategy consulting firm in Chicago to focus on MyGuru full time.He is an avid hockey player, basketball player, and golfer, as well as one of the most devoted Seinfeld fans you're likely to meet.
