I tutor pre-kindergarteners through fifth-graders in my home in the Milwood area. Whether help is needed with reading, writing, spelling, math, science, social studies, or state test preparation, I can help. I retired four years ago after 37 years of teaching in Texas public schools. Fifteen years were spent teaching children with learning disabilities, early childhood special needs and multi-handicaps. My regular education experience includes pre-kindergarten through third grade self-contained classrooms. My eight years of teaching third grade included test preparation for the STAAR test. In addition, I taught child development courses at the community college level. Whether your child’s needs are remedial, homework help, enrichment, or a confidence-boost, I’m up for the challenge.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Science degree from the University of Houston/Clear Lake. My certifications include: special education, early childhood for exceptional children, language/learning disabilities, kindergarten, elementary education and ESL. My professional experience encompasses: thirty-seven years of teaching in Texas public schools - for five school districts, nine elementary schools, and fourteen principals; two years of teaching child development courses at the community college level; and over twenty-five years of private tutoring. My goal is to build a safe learning environment in which children learn for themselves in a way that is relaxed and fun. I work to build their self-confidence as we improve academic skills.
